Earth West 1,617,524 is the homeworld of the wolf-like sapient species known as beagles. As a world located in the Venus belt, it has much less water than the Datum Earth, with lower sea levels and drier continents.[1]

World[]

This Earth is located in the Venus belt, a band of worlds much drier than Datum Earth. The ice caps here are smaller, and while the continents are in roughly the same position as on the Datum, they look different due to the much lower sea levels. For instance, Australia and Southeast Asia are connected by thick land, while Alaska and Siberia are connected by the Bering land bridge. The continental interiors are inhospitable deserts, so beagle communities like The Eye of the Hunter must be located around rivers or coastlines to thrive in such a dry world.[1]

Life[]

The trees on this world are short and squat, and resemble ferns.[2] They form forest clumps alongside lakes or the banks of rivers.[3][4] Also by the waterside, green fields are made up of a plant which is not grass, but looks very similar.[4][5] Lichens can be found growing on the trunks of the fern-like trees.[6]

The dominant animals on this Earth appear to be mammals, and flightless birds are present as well. Mammals seen include the sapient, wolf-like beagles, as well as a variety of their livestock animals: cattle-, pig-, and goat-like animals, rhinoceros-like beasts with lopped-off horns,[7] animals which vaguely resemble bears or apes,[8] and fat, deer-like creatures.[2] Wild relatives of the latter resemble small deer with large bodies and short legs.[3] Flightless birds seen include a beefy, feathery bird found in a livestock pen,[2][7] and a related kind of terror bird-like creature which beagles use to pull their carts: the latter have stubby wings, clawed feet, and a giant beak, and emit loud, pigeon-like cries.[9]

More recently, some domestic animals originally from Datum Earth have been introduced to this world as well. Dogs can be found in beagle communities, while rabbits run wild in the fields beyond.[10][11]

Trolls also live here, singing beagle songs and helping them build their communities; they came here in droves around the time of the gentle revolution in 2040,[12][13] but seem to be much less common on this world in the following years.[14]
